SEND and IEPs for Childminders – Summary

• Understanding the principles of SEND and inclusive practice in a childminding setting.
• Recognising and responding to children's individual learning and development needs.
• Using Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to identify targets, support progress, and monitor outcomes.
• Working closely with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach.
• Adapting activities, environments, and routines to enable all children to participate and achieve.
• Using observation and assessment to inform planning and identify appropriate support strategies.
• Promoting children's confidence, wellbeing, and independence through a strengths-based  approach.
• Regularly reviewing IEP targets to ensure support remains relevant and effective.
